HISTORY: 25 year old Brian L'homme is a Norwich,
Connecticut native.
As a child Brian was diagnosed with Freedricks Ataxia,
which is a condition
that deteriorates muscle groups.
Due to the deterioration of his muscle groups, Brian has
been confined to a power wheel chair for over 12 years. Brian, who also
suffers from diabetes, has been blessed with admirable determination which
brings out his hope and motivation to conquer each goal that lies in his
daily life.
Obviously these conditions make normal every day tasks a serious
challenge, but there is hope.
In September of 2005 Brian was
informed of a great
program by non-profit East Coast Assistance Dogs (http://www.ecad1.org).
This program trains Golden Retrievers and Labradors to assist people with
physical and mental challenges.
After learning about this program Brian established a goal to obtain an
assistance dog. These dogs have the ability to pick up items, open doors,
take off shoes and provide much needed companionship when no one else is
around.
The next step was to fill out the application and go to
the interview at the Canine Training Center in Dobbsferry, NY. After meeting
ECAD personal, who reviewed Brian's application package, he was approved
for entrance into the 13 day live-in training program.

Now the only challenge is generating the financial
requirement of $6500.00. Family and friends have started a grass
roots effort to get Brian an assistance dog and associated costs (dog food
and vet costs). Currently we are accepting
gifts and prizes to host a raffle. If you would like to donate funds please
